In 2014, Chris met a group of paddlers who had just finished the Muskoka River X, an expedition-style canoe race in Huntsville, Ontario. Their thrilling stories of navigating challenging routes, portaging, and tackling waterfalls inspired him and a friend to sign up for the 2015 race. With a rented canoe and borrowed paddles, they successfully completed the grueling 132 km course in 22.5 hours—just within the 24-hour cut-off. This experience sparked Chris’s passion for marathon canoeing, leading him to compete in races across Canada, the USA, and South America.
Maker Roots
From a young age, Chris developed a talent for designing and crafting things by hand. As he progressed through school, he honed his skills in physics and technology. In 2016, he combined these passions to create his first composite bent-shaft paddle—crude but functional. Encouraged by paddling friends who eagerly supported his hobby and purchased his early prototypes, he refined his craft. Nearly a decade later, through continuous improvement, his skills, equipment, and processes have evolved to produce some of the strongest, lightest, and most visually striking composite paddles on the market.
